Joe shot a doe in the morning then we
moved him to a waterhole for the afternoon as the temps
were supposed to climb into the 70’s later in the day.
About 1-1/2 hours before dark he rattled the bones then
later did a few doe bleats and grunt calls. Just after
he did another set of bleats and grunts this giant
walked into the waterhole looking for the doe. Joe said
he was literally shaking so bad he had to brace his
shooting arm against the tree to shoot, looks like it
worked! Luckily he was only 5 yards away.
A neat twist to this bucks story:
This buck was almost famous...in 2003 Mitch Hagen was
hunting with us and filming a hunt for PrimeTime Bucks
8. Mitch had this bruiser come in but as luck
would have it, the arrow hit him in the shoulder...and
bruisers like these don't go down easy. So he
lived to grow another year.
Mitch called his good friend Joe Braun
and told him he had to book a hunt with Buffalo County
Outfitters for 2004...so a year later and here is
Joe...with a great buck...and official bragging rights
over Mitch!
FYI: The buck had about 35" of
additional horn growth from 2003 to 2004!
Great buck turned into a tremendous buck!
Congrats to a great guy to have in
camp!
